GAMEPLAY

Guardian Sentinel is a first-person Action RPG game about a woodland spirit trying to protect his forest from corrupted creatures. The main goal as the Creative lead, level and combat designer was to develop an engaging experiance in a space where the player could utilize their abilities to overcome foes and save their forest.

WORLD CONSTRUCTION

Critical Path

Certain locations in the level and on this map allow the character to use their vine whip ability to manoeuvre across the map when necessary. Certain paths are made more impossible than others to pass by foot. Thus, encouraging the player to explore other methods leading them to quickly adapt to swinging over and onto a new section of the trail/level. Rivers along the paths that require a player to use their vine whip to cross are filled with a deadly poison, if a player chooses to walk through the purple water they would die before reaching the other side.

The Combat Zones were spaces where the player must destroy an obelisk while being attacked by an enemy monster. The player doesn't have any offensive abilities however they do have the ability to turn the enemies attacks against them by deflecting with their shields. When I designing the combat zones I set them up to allow the player to lure the enemy into positions optimal for deflection.

In this location is the first combat zone the Player encounters. It tutorializes them to attack the corrupted trees rather than the healthy one since they would loose points. The playershould focus on lining up their shots to only target the corrupted trees.

In this location the Player can use their vine whip ability to swing and hang in front of the obelisk. With enough skill and coordination the player can time when to drop and dodge an incoming fireball, thus hitting the obelisk behind them

In this location the Player has to avoid hitting the healthy trees and only destroy the corrupted trees in the back. To do this the, player has to lure an enemy to the back of the obelisk. By jumping on the back rocks to gain elevation they more accurately target the corrupted trees
